In what area of law do you practice and why did you choose this? 

Estate planning. I like working with people to avoid problems before they arise.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Anything but a lawyer or a doctor.

When did you decide you wanted to be a lawyer?

During my undergrad studies when I embraced my true nature.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a lawyer?

I would probably be looking for a second career after burning out from teaching high school English.

Tell us about a mentor who made an impact on your career.

Jim Patterson, the first partner I worked with out of law school. He is relentlessly
cheerful and calm.

What do you like best about practicing law at H&J?

The coworkers!

What is the best career advice you have received?

Hold yourself to a high standard and things will fall into place.

What is the strangest legal question you have ever been asked?

What happens if a mom disowns her son and then he adopts her?

Learn to paraglide.

When you are not working, what would people find you doing?

Coaching my kids’ soccer teams or geocaching.

What is your favorite part of practicing law?

Using my skill set to solve peoples’ problems.

Who is your hero?

My dad.

The Night Watch, by Terry Pratchett

What advice would you give to the young version of yourself who is just entering law school?

Talk to your professors more, they’re on your team.

What might people be surprised to know about you?

My right leg is longer than my left leg.

What is your strongest asset?

My ability to work hard, calmly.
