Charles “Chuck” Shreffler has been litigating business disputes for more than 35 years. He began his career as a law clerk to Judge Paul Magnuson of the U.S. District Court and has been in private practice since 1989. Chuck represents clients in bringing and defending lawsuits across a wide range of matters, including fraud, contract disputes, will contests, shareholder disputes, civil rights, and employment discrimination. He has also represented individuals and organizations in cases involving freedom of conscience and free speech, and previously served as general counsel for a start-up software company.

EXPERIENCE

  • In court trial, successfully defeated fraud claims brought against business owner, and prevailed on counterclaim to force purchaser to pay all amounts due. Hensley Enterprises LLC v. Admail LLC (Washington County District Court).
  • Won $500,000 award in court trial on behalf of minority shareholder alleging breach of fiduciary duty. Chicoine v. Interlink Communications Corp. (Hennepin County District Court).
  • Negotiated confidential settlement in favor of former employee alleging employment discrimination, failure to accommodate religious beliefs, against Fortune 500 company. (American Arbitration Association).
  • Achieved jury verdict in favor of pharmacist in case alleging that pharmacist violated the Minnesota Human Rights Act by declining to dispense an emergency contraceptive. Anderson v. Aitkin Pharmacy Services LLC and George Badeaux (Aitkin County District Court).
  • In court trial, successfully defended corporate president against former employee’s effort to pierce the corporate veil. Trinh v. Cardiology Prevention LLC (Hennepin County District Court).
  • In probate court trial, successfully proved that notarized and recorded Transfer on Death Deed was a forgery. In re Estate of Judith Schultz (Ramsey County Probate Court).
