Allianz Life Insurance Company (“Allianz”) has confirmed a massive data breach affecting the personal data of most of its 1.4 million customers. The Minneapolis-based firm, a subsidiary of global insurance giant Allianz SE headquartered in Munich, said the Allianz data breach occurred on July 16 through a third-party, cloud-based system. The unauthorized cybercriminals obtained the highly sensitive personally identifiable data related to the majority of Allianz’s customers.
On July 16, 2025, an unauthorized cybercriminal gained access to a third-party, cloud-based CRM system used by Allianz to host its customers’ highly sensitive personal identifiable information. The cybercriminal was able to obtain personally identifiable data related to the majority of Allianz’s customers, financial professionals, and select Allianz employees, using a social engineering technique.
The Allianz data breach investigation is currently ongoing and Allianz is in the process of reaching out to individuals impacted. This data breach is related only to Allianz in the U.S., which currently has 1.4 million customers. Recognizing the severity of the data breach, Allianz is offering affected individuals 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.
