The Briefing Room: November 2025

Embracing AI in Legal Writing—Insights and Takeaways from Our Recent Seminar

Earlier this fall, we had the privilege to deliver a seminar that explored how artificial intelligence is transforming legal writing. Our session was designed as a hands-on, interactive experience, giving attendees the unique opportunity to see first-hand how AI tools can significantly enhance clarity, efficiency, and the persuasive power of legal documents—all while navigating the growing set of productivity, cost, and accuracy expectations from clients, firms, and judges.

Exploring the Real Impact of AI in Legal Writing

The legal profession is currently experiencing a period of rapid change as artificial intelligence continues to evolve. During the seminar, we demonstrated how today’s AI platforms can streamline traditional legal workflows: drafting, research, editing, and more. Attendees watched live demos showing how AI can generate first drafts, suggest language improvements, flag inconsistencies, and even summarize authoritative sources. These capabilities not only make the daunting task of getting started on a blank page less intimidating, but also free attorneys to spend more time refining arguments and developing case strategy rather than wrestling with routine wording and formatting.

Our live writing exercises covered a range of use cases—including briefs, communications, contracts, pleadings, and more—so lawyers could not just observe but directly participate in AI-powered drafting. This hands-on approach helped demystify the technology, making clear how AI can be used as a practical, everyday assistant rather than a distant, futuristic concept.

Addressing Professional Expectations and Ethics

A key theme of our discussion was the new set of expectations shaping modern legal practice. Clients, firms, and even the courts increasingly expect legal professionals to deliver work that is not only rigorous and accurate, but also timely and cost-effective. AI is emerging as a vital tool in meeting these evolving standards, offering improvements in both quality assurance and risk management.

However, embracing AI does not mean relinquishing human oversight. Our seminar also touched on strategies for safely integrating AI tools into legal workflows while maintaining ethical standards and professional responsibility. Combining AI’s strengths—such as pinpointing inconsistencies or summarizing vast materials—with human judgment ensures both the quality and the integrity of legal work.
